The colors of the sunset that we saw coming home from an adventure on Cayuga Lake near Ithaca NY. This image is from the Rt. 201 crossing in Johnson City New York.

And my last image of the night taken at 10:09pm. It was a fun, enjoyable outing to watch as the moon was going through its eclipse and I learned some new things with my camera as well. Night shots are still something that I’m working on and hope to master some day. Until the next eclipse, enjoy MT 🙂

NGC6960 sometimes known as the ‘witches broomstick’. Here are a couple of not terrible successful attempts by me to photograph it. The presence of a bright object alongside it makes the duration of the open shutter problematic. I  tried doing longer shots but the nebula just gets blotted out by the bright object.

Here is another much more successful picture of the whole nebula, which shows how it became to be known as ‘the witches broomstick’

This is a new target for me. The eastern veil nebula forms part of an area of heated ionized gas known collectively as the Veil Nebula. It is the remnant of a supernova that exploded 5-8 thousand years ago. It can be found in the constellation Cygnus and is approx 1470 light years from earth.

Pluto as seen by New Horizons satellite 2015

NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft has reached its closest point to Pluto and is now sending back the most detailed pictures of the planets surface.

Located in the constellation Triangulum, from which it takes its name, this spiral galaxy is the 3rd largest after the Milky way and the Andromeda galaxy. It may be a bound satellite of the Andromeda galaxy. It is 3 million light years from earth; has a diameter of 60,000 light years and is estlimated to contain around 40
billion stars.

The Lagoon Nebula is found in the constellation Sagittarius and is approx 4-6,000 light years from Earth. It is approx 110 by 50 light years in size and contains an area of active star formation.

These are some colour filtered shots of the Nebula
